Prepare a checklist before meeting with your bathroom Designer or Bathroom Renovation Expert!

Before meeting with your bathroom designer or bathroom renovation expert, you should have a general idea of what you are trying to accomplish before beginning a bathroom renovation.

Take a moment and make a small list of the things that are important to you. You may wish to have two columns on your list. 1- Must Haves and 2- Wish List.

The most important thing to consider when renovating your bathroom should be to separate your emotions from what is practical. The grand design you might be contemplating in your mind may be out of line with your budget or may not add value to your home when it's time to sell. A professionally trained bathroom renovation firm or bathroom designer will be able to guide you and help you make decisions regarding adding value to your home and meeting the budget you have available.

Important things to consider when looking to renovate or designing a bathroom should include:
  1. Should you have one or two sinks?
  2. Is there room for a glass enclosed shower separate from the tub or Jacuzzi?
  3. Will the design you have in mind for your new bathroom overwhelm the other features of your home? In other words having a bathroom that reflects a Mercedes and the remainder of a home that looks like a ford could actually cause people to take a 2nd look before deciding to purchase your home. You should consider this if re-sell of your home is the reason for the bathroom renovation or new bathroom design.
  4. If the bathroom is to be utilized by everyone in the home, does the new bathroom design or bathroom renovation take in consideration small children?
  5. If you live in a historical home in Georgetown Washington DC, Bethesda or Chevy Chase Maryland ask your bathroom designer or bathroom renovation expert to make certain that if you are moving or tearing down walls to add a sink, toilet, Jacuzzi or tub will this affect anything else in the home? Older homes often times when duct work was added to accommodate air conditioning and heat have "false walls" to cover the duct work. Moving duct work can increase the price of your bathroom renovation as well as adding time to the bathroom designer when they go to create a drawing of the new bathroom design.
  6. Will there be adequate room to add the types towel racks or toilet paper holders that you have in mind?
  7. Make certain that you include plenty of bathroom cabinetry. We all know what it's like to be in the bathroom without a towel or paper. A good bathroom designer can make certain that there will be adequate bathroom cabinets.
  8. Make certain that bathroom fixtures such as tubs, sinks or toilets are strategically placed in the amount of space you have available. Your bathroom designer will be able to show you with drawings where these bathroom fixtures will be positioned prior to starting your bathroom renovation.

So remember before meeting with your bathroom designer or bathroom renovation firm HAVE A CHECKLIST AND QUESTIONS PREPARED to save time and money.
